MEHREN

Design of an electric vehicle with wheel hub drives regarding highly efficient use of space and energy without compromising driving safety

The use of electric wheel hub drives in passenger cars promises benefits in terms of driving dynamics and space efficiency . A number of technical problems currently prevent the practical use of this technology . These include a suitable high integration of power electronics and friction brake inside the wheel, an integrated vehicle dynamics control, in which the motion commands are distributed across the existing actuators (actuator, friction brake) in a consistent and energy efficient manner, appropriate safety systems as well as complete vehicle concepts , which are optimized for the use of wheel hub drives.

The MEHREN project aims at removing these obstacles and exploiting the potential of wheel hub drives in passenger cars.
